Hi Adina- Are you still doing the Library visits? I just started volunteering with the Friends of Walla Walla program and would love to bring my friend to meet Rosco. Was it on Wednesdays? Or are you off for the summer? ~Karen

Profile Information

About Me
I taught special education for fifteen years. My career ended with a chronic back problem. I am now embarking on a new adventure as a writer. I have been published in both regional and national magazines. I also write books. I am a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA); volunteering my time for children in foster care. My cats, Buttercup and Cocoa, share their home with Togo, though reluctantly and with a lot of hissing at times.
Relationship Status
Single
Tell us about your dog(s)! Breed? Names(?) Age(s)?
Togo is named after one of the sled dogs that brought life-saving syrum to Alaska in the 20's. The original Togo was the one who traveled the furthest distance. Of course, Balto got all the attention, thanks in part to Disney. She is a great dog. The vet lists her as a Husky/Retriever mix. She stays right at 66lbs. She is almost four years old but is often mistaken for a puppy as she is a hyper little bundle of happy energy. She's an absolute joy. She is my first dog; I grew up with cats and had them as an adult too.
How did you obtain your dog(s)?
Shelter, Rescue
What activities do you enjoy doing with your dog(s)?
Lots of walks, camping, training, snuggling, going to the new dog park, socializing
Who grooms your dog(s)?
ACE (can't do it myself due to bad back)
What are your favorite dog products?
gentle leader, Kong-like products
Got a website? If so, you can share it below (if not, leave blank)

I quit because I couldn't ever find anyone there. So we don't have to go to Wildwood per se...this Tuesday is a busy day for me, but Mon and Wed after 6pm works or Tue/Thur after 5pm. Otherwise Sundays are always good, depending on the time.

Thanks Karen. I'm STILL very open to meeting sometime to work on training and approaching strangers and other dogs...I need to do some brushing up and improvement in my non-therapy dog (Thule) before baby gets here as she is far less able to hold still =)

I'm off for the summer from the library gig. I'm actually expecting my first baby in November, so we may not start up again until fall 2010, most likely.

I went to Handling practice at wildwood tonite but nobody was there. I think the kennel club needs to appoint someone to actually BE THERE or else it looks kind of silly. So I just moved on to Pioneer and I did some practice with Thule there. We need to set a time to get together for training practice =)

We're not having much luck with these darn rainy, cloudy Tuesdays! I'm not going tonite if it's raining or if it looks like it's raining.

Hi Karen,

They are SUPPOSED to meet ... but often any possibility of bad weather means no meeting.
I was going to go but a family emergency has come up for me and that just was not an option. Next Tuesday I should go...

The kids are the ones who built Sparknotes and sold it for bookoo bucks.

Karen - writing. okcupid was started by some MIT students, and I ran into a longtime friend there who turned me on to the journaling process there. You might want tot try it. I get much inspiration, although I don't really use the journals there the way most people do.

Hi Karen! One other thing...If you are serious about attempting Delta registration for you and Togo--go to their website (link in the therapy group) and purchase their training manual (required). Then you can get an idea of what is in store (tho it doesn't teach HOW TO train only what is expected). If we get together to practice you'll know what things we'll work on.
