Dogs can go to the live outdoor concerts and occasionally indoor ones. Sapolil cellars downtown told me I could bring my dog inside one evening when we were walking by but I didn't know how he would react so didn't. We sat outside on the bench and w…

I think most dog owners, mixed or not, are very interested in obedience, but perhaps not in competing. The kids took one bulldog to State 4-H, off leash. Believe me, with a bulldog that is quite a feat. But me, I just don't see myself as dog show ma…

Oh yeah, I contacted Kelpie rescue in Portland, that was it. She said she could place him.

The story of Frankie, let me recall...you gave him to me thanksgiving. I kept him until about March, fostering after he was registered with swat. Then he went to another foster home, since I'm not very proactive. Severla people had contacted me, but weren't right. They placed him in about a week. Then a couple months went by. Sallie called and said he was in the shelter, "did I want him back, because swat didn't, and he was "unadoptable". I said yes, absolutely. Then I kept him. I can't remember when I finally found the perfect place, a year? He stopped attacking everyone, just using the evil eye. They all learned to keep clear, especially with food.

Cindy, you are right, it can take weeks for a dog to feel comfortable in their new home. I takes time to develop confidence in a low self esteem dog. I am no dog trainer, but I have learned that a lot of times dog owners unknowingly foster or encourage low self esteem behavior by giving affection or cuddling when a dog is nervous or anxious. Any kind of positive affection just rewards the anxious behavior. I've learned to reward only positive behavior. A pet may be our "baby", but we should not treat it like a human baby!

Hi Cindy,

I think GAL work would be exhausting. Many of the cases are not clear cut as to what to do. I also think some people will act worse than criminals if they believe they may lose their children. That would be hard.
I am going to Capella University and getting a doctorate in clinical psych. I have finished the coursework, all the travel, and I am now doing my comprehensive exam which is huge. In my first question I have used well over 50 references! Only two more questions to go!
Yes lets have tea after this exam is done. I would like to catch up and find out the details of where you are moving your office, etc.
By the way I got a BA from Gonzaga and it is an excellent school. You would be very happy with them.
